Martha Rogers' "Winter Promise"

Title: Winter Promise
Publisher: Realms Fiction of Charisma House.

Cover blurb: A young doctor bound by a tragedy in his past finds forgiveness through a determined librarian and a baby he delivers at Christmas.

1) How did this story come to you?
The heroine is Rachel’s best friend from the first book and I wanted her to join Rachel in Portersfield. I decided the town needed a library and Abigail would be the best one to open it. I used the doctor’s story from the second book for the hero’s story and there I had the plot.

2) Tell us about the journey to getting this book published.
It is the third book in the contract for the series Seasons of the Heart.

3) Tell me three things about yourself that would surprise your readers.
1) I was a complete tomboy as child. I climbed trees and played football with the neighborhood boys.
2) I learned to cook at the age of 5 when my grandmother let me help her make cookies. She also taught me to sew.
3) I graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics, but ended up teaching English for half of my career in teaching.

4) What are you working on now and what's next for you?
I’m almost finished with a Christmas book for 2012. The title of it is Christmas in Holly Hill. I have a new series that will begin in 2013. It will be three books based on the years following the Armistice with Lee and Grant in 1865. I’m excited about writing it because it includes a lot of my own family history based on letters and journals of my Great-grandfather and grandfather.

5) Parting Comments:
I’m excited that my books are available for Kindle, Nook, and other E-Readers. It’s a whole new way of obtaining books. You can find me on the internet at http://www.marthawrogers.com/.

Martha Rogers' "Summer Dream"

Title: Summer Dream
Publisher: Realms Fiction Division of Charisma House.

Cover blurb:  As the daughter of a small-town minister in Connecticut, Rachel Winston fears that the only way she’ll ever find a husband is to visit her aunt in Boston for the social season. But when Nathan Reed arrives in town, she can’t help but wonder if he’s the one.

Although attracted to Rachel, Nathan has no desire to become involved with a Christian after experiences with his own family. What’s more, he realizes that even if he wanted to court her, he has little chance of doing so until he resolves his anger with God and his family.

When Nathan is caught in a devastating blizzard and lies near death in the Winston home, Rachel and her mother give him a lesson in love and forgiveness that leads him back to his home in the South. Will he make peace with his family and return to Briar Ridge before Rachel chooses a path that takes her away from him?

1) How did this story come to you?
I saw a story on Discovery Channel about a great blizzard in New England in 1888. I started reading about it from newspaper clippings of that day and saw what a huge storm it was and that they gave it the name, “The Great White Hurricane.” I decided I had to write a book that included the storm in it. So the book was born and set in Connecticut.

2) Tell us about the journey to getting this book published.
As it happened, I was finishing up a series for Realms when they asked me if I had other ideas. Summer Dream was in my files so I offered a proposal for it and three more to follow. They liked the idea and gave me another contract.

3) Tell me three things about yourself that would surprise your readers.
I once was a nursing major in college.
I was on the tennis team in high school.
I had my own column for our high school newspaper, “Around the Halls at WW” (Mostly a “gossip” column.

4) What are you working on now and what's next for you?
I’m finishing up the last book in my present series and then I have a Christmas book to write for Realms.

5) Parting comments?

Matt misses her, but after seeing how happy she is with her new friends, he won’t pursue her. Two events, one happy, the other traumatic, work together to change hearts and bring love.

Martha Rogers' "Finding Becky"

We're happy to have Martha Rogers with us today talking about her book, Finding Becky. To learn more about Martha and her book, read on!

1) How did this story come to you?
It was a natural progression of a character from a previous book. I wanted a young woman who was independent, searching for truth, and firm in her belief about equality for women. Becky is all of those and her journey was fun to write.

2) Tell us about the journey to getting this book published.
It’s the third book in the series Winds Across the Prairie and was part of a three book contract. It took several years for an editor to choose the first book for publication. This one was only a one paragraph summary, so I had four months to plot and write it. Luckily I knew all but a few new characters, so the story came right along. It was the most fun to write.

3) Tell me three things about yourself that would surprise your readers.
I love Christmas and my house is totally decorated for that season. I have 24 storage boxes of decorations in my attic.
I am a Baylor graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in what was once Home Economics but is now something like Consumer Science.
My husband and I have lived in the same house for 34 years. (Didn’t think I’d haul all that Christmas stuff around did you?)

4) What are you working on now and what's next for you?
I’ve just started a new series and am working on the first book. This one starts in Connecticut and ends in Texas.

5) Parting comments?
Thanks for hosting me, and I hope you enjoy this new visit to Barton Creek with the Haynes and Frankston families.

Morning for Dove by Martha Rogers

Morning for Dove

We're happy to have Martha Rogers with us today talking about her book, Morning for Dove. Read on to learn more about Martha and her book.

1) How did this story come to you?
When my son lived in Tulsa, we went to visit quite often and always stopped at a tourist information system for coffee and restroom break at Thackerville. I became interested in the history of the state and decided to combine it with my interest in Boston.

2) Tell us about the journey to getting this book published.
I wrote the book in 2004 and 2005 and sent it to my agent. It stayed with one editor who took it to committee, but it was rejected. It was with them for over six months. We changed the title and began submitting it elsewhere. After more revision, Tamela sent it out again to several new editors and Debbie Marrie at Strang picked it up.

3) Tell me three things about yourself that would surprise your readers.
Hmm, I’m a pretty open book, but they may be surprised to learn I was a nursing student when I started out in college in 1953. Readers might be surprised to learn I am a breast cancer survivor. 10 ½ years since my second surgery. I love to sew and use to make all my own clothes.

4) What are you working on now and what's next for you?
I’m working on book three in the series and a Christmas novella for Barbour

5) Parting comments?
Never give up on your dream, and never believe you are too old to get published.
