Title: Welcome Home: Our Family’s Journey to Extreme Joy

1) How did this story come to you?
This is my story. The ups and downs of life with my daughter Kayla’s diagnosis, her rare condition, brain surgery, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition experience, and the joy of the Lord.

2) Tell us about the journey to getting this book published.
As a fiction writer first, I never thought about writing non-fiction until millions of people saw the EMHE episode on TV and the requests started rolling in. When I was approached to write our story so that we could encourage others, I was humbled and thrilled to write it.

3) Tell me three things about yourself that would surprise your readers.
-I read really fast, and finish a book pretty much every other day. This surprises most people because my life is so busy—but I love to read, so I squeeze in as much as possible. 
-When I was a child, I never dreamed of being a writer. I studied music all my life, all the way through college.
- I once fell almost 500 feet while climbing a mountain in Switzerland. Hmmm, maybe I’ll write a book about that one day 

4) What are you working on now and what's next for you?
-Kayla and I are writing three suspense books for B&H Publishers. They are set in Alaska. Kayla will be the youngest published novelist! The first releases in March of 2011, the second in February 2012, and the third in August of 2012.
And I’m also working on a Parenting Book.
In April, we’ll be traveling back to Alaska for a research trip with my incredible editor, Karen Ball. We are so excited and privileged to be working with B&H.

4) Parting comments?
Thank you so much for having me here!

5) Where can fans find you on the internet?

  1. I just needed to say that this is the best book I've ever read in my whole life and I don't even like nonfiction.

A friend gave me this book and it changed my life. Her writing is so real and honest and it made me laugh and cry.

I was ready to commit suicide the day before I read this book. I didn't take my life after reading it.

I wrote Kim through her websight after that and she encouraged me and found someone in my area that really cared about me. They come see me. I never met a writer like that. She went the extra mile for me.

I cant wait for her new fiction to come out because this book came to life for me and because she cared about me as a person. I bought this book for all of my family for Christmas. Everybody told me they loved it.

If you only read one book this year beside your bible please read this one.
    - a life changed and Kim I hope you read this. Thank you for sharing and loving and caring. You write so wonderful. I can't wait to read your new release.

  12. I haven't been a fan of extreme makeover, but now I'm sorry I didn't see the show with you and your family. A sick child or a child with disablities is hard for any family, but sometimes I think they are picked for this challenge. What an inspiring story.

  13. I usually watch Extreme Makeover. Thank you for writing a book about it; I'd love to win it.
