We're happy to have Christa Allan with us today talking about her new release "Walking on Broken Glass."

1) How did this story come to you?
I’m a recovering alcoholic, and by God’s grace, have not had a drink for over twenty years. I invited God back into my life because of AA, not in spite of it. As I grew in my faith and in my recovery, I realized that so many Christian families suffer in silence. Alcoholism, drug, sex, or food addiction, lifestyles are all the big elephants in the room we don’t talk about. But we all know they exist. So, what’s someone to do who’s immersed in these challenges? I wanted to reassure women struggling with addiction that they’re not alone, that there’s a loving and compassion God who cares about them and His grace will be sufficient for them. I wanted to remove the façade that often hinders real recovery. “Good” Christian families aren’t immune to the world, but once we admit we have a problem, we can be healed by God.

2) Tell us about the journey to getting this book published.
One of the first mile-markers was my husband buying me a laptop. Ever so romantically, he says, "Here, now go write something."
Three years, a hurricane, and an ACFW conference later, my tenth graders stroll into my classroom and find me, their teacher, staring at my computer monitor. In tears. Rachelle Gardner of WordServe Literary wanted to talk. To me.
Ten months, several passes by publishers, and another ACFW conference later, my tenth graders stroll into my classroom, and find me, their teacher, snapping my cell phone closed. In tears.
Rachelle called to tell me Abingdon Press had just offered me a contract.

3) Tell me three things about yourself that would surprise your readers.
1. I sometimes read the end of the novel before the beginning!
2. Alone, I’m a fashion train wreck. I rely on two of my daughters to avoid frumpy.
3. I hate roller coasters.

4) What are you working on now and what's next for you?
Rachelle is shopping two proposals now. I’m hoping another contract is next!

5) Parting comments?
Thank you so much for hosting me, and thanks to all of you who are turning the pages of my novel!

  1. Christa,
From the daughter of alcoholic parents and a sister of one lost soul alcoholic brother, this would be a have-to read. I struggled in my new Christianity because I had lived such a different life up until that point.

Living as a recovering addict is not an easy path, although most of our paths as Christians are difficult. I lift you up for your courage to put words down and follow your heart into publication. God bless and keep you!

  7. I also had an alcoholic Father, and a brother that I love dearly. Its hard to watch someone lose theirself in a bottle, but I pray that one day he will find the peace in Jesus as I have.
I pray for him daily. I'd love to read Christa's book. Please add me to your giveaway.

  9. I had a brother die from alcoholism. Left a hole in the family and his children. I would appreciate winning and reading your book.
I avoid reading the endings, as it spoils the book for me!!! I'm tempted at times!
